Men Love The Big Block Engine

Since the sixties and seventies, the heyday of the muscle cars, like Mustangs, Americans have been enamored by the power and beauty of those cars and their big block engines. In those days, a hybrid didn’t exist. Gasoline was cheap and the desire for more power in our cars was at an all time high! Americans have had a love affair with powerful big block engines ever since! People can’t get over the fact that they produce so much horsepower and can make so much noise.

Now I am not going to stand here and say that you should drive a muscle car everywhere you go. Even the most zealous muscle car fan can’t say that driving a vintage muscle car very far is worth it. These days, fuel prices are at an all time high and climbing. People have to save money. It just so happens that even this muscle-head drives a Toyota Prius to work every day. That little dandy car gets over 60 miles per gallon, and a muscle car can’t hold a light up to that. My bank account rejoices!

Saving money is the ticket during the every day commute, but when the weekend arrives… I want to have fun! On weekends, my favorite thing to do is to jump in my Mustang with its powerful big block motor and go wherever I want. To be behind the wheel of such a high performance motor, and the incredible horsepower it produces… you know now why I say it makes a man out of a boy!

I can’t help but LOVE big block engines. Especially Chevrolet big blocks! Heck, I even love big block Fords! But give me a kick butt Chevy 454 big block any day and watch me nearly cry for lack of words to describe the joy of experiencing it. In fact, one my favorite things that I love about these powerful motors from the 60’s and 70’s, of course, is the noise and the sheer horsepower. I’ll confess, I’m a typical man in this respect. Nothing is more beautiful to my ear than the growl of that big block Chevy engine of mine at full throttle! It takes me back to my teenage years squalling tires and breaking hearts! The big block engine roar is like music to my ears.

Back when I was a teen, my 68 Cararo burned rubber in my hometown like tires cost nothing. At the time, there was nothing better than to beat my buddy’s car in a James Dean style race. There were some close calls but I had so much fun! Big block engines made it happen, and they take me down memory lane to my teen years. Back then, when drive-ins played movies like Jaws, and girls were all over me every weekend, I had the time of my life!

Car with those big blocks are much easier to fix than the computerized cars of today. It is incredible how high-tech computers have gotten in today’s world. It simply takes all the fun out of working on a car.

Its no lie, I love my old big block engine cars. I love to get under the hood, and tinker with the motor. If I take a notion, and want to get my engine bored, add custom aftermarket parts, “bling”ing it out to the max, then it is definitely very doable. I call my vintage car my big boy’s toy!

Big block engines are pretty easy to work on, and provide an experience to the male mind that only the love of a woman comes near. The best part is that a engine won’t ask you to take out the trash or vacuum the carpet! Seriously though, having a big block car is akin to growing hair on your chest.. It is a male thing to do.
