Chevy vans are the trendsetters of the 80’s. With this, comes the Chevrolet Astro which has also making its waves in that decade. What makes Chevrolet Astro special compared to the other van; is that its durable body is designed to be like a mini-van and has a functional rear wheels so that it has a superb pulling capabilities. This has made a difference from the other vans which are only a 2-wheel drive.

The earlier versions of Chevrolet Astro had more truck like characteristics and did not give much ease and comfort to the driver. Fuel economy, suspension, weight and high levels of engine noise similar to trucks created some degree of problems compared to the modern day mini vans.

In the year 1985, new versions of Chevrolet Astro were introduced in the market which competed along with the popular Dodge Caravans and the Plymouth Voyager twins. Both GM and Ford became the frontrunners with their modern minivan designs that left the earlier introduced truck based models behind.

With the newer Chevrolet Astro, it has made itself into a substantial segment of the market that it had last for two decades. In comparison to its predecessors, Chevrolet had an automatic four speed transmission. It has also became a rival to GM for its five speed manual transmission.

The 1990 saw a new transformation of Chevrolet Astro. It was once a van only powered by its rear wheels is now being powered by all of its wheels. Its power is just way too incredible that it can pull a 6,000 lbs load. With addition to some 10 inches in length, passengers seating space are maximized for greater ease.

These manufactured cars had power steering, air conditioning, stereo system and car accessories including cruise control systems. Anti-lock brakes were also introduced in these mini vans along with air bags for the safety of the drivers. Finally, the Chevrolet Astro got the much deserved new look for its exterior with a swanky dashboard along with smooth controls. New power steering which was speed sensitive was added to the new Chevrolet Astro thus improving the efficiency of this passenger vehicle.
